Baby Bear (also known as ‘petit bebe’, lit. ‘little baby’) is the name of a white/cream teddy bear which was sold by Marks & Spencer circa 1999.
Back then there were originally 5 of the basic bears. Since then the “family” has been reduced to 3 basic bears (Right Babe, Wrong Babe, Clean Babe) and two slightly more “better condition” basic bears found on eBay in 2008 (Cream Babe), and 2010 (yet to be named).
The family is also augmented with a larger bear with a bell inside (Mommy Bear), three small bears with a velcro strap that you can wrap round your wrist (the Bobbys), two rattling bears with holes in their middles for grip (the Polo Bears), and a teddy rabbit from some other place who is treated as the adopted sister of the family (Baby Bunny).
It is unknown whether Marks and Spencer still make these teddy bears, but they haven’t been seen stocked since 2001, so presumably the family is irreplaceable. Unless they decide to make them again, which is highly unlikely. Or more are found on eBay, which seems to be happening more often lately.
Right Babe
Right Babe is the original leader, and face of the Baby Bears, so named because at the time he was considered the “right” bear as he was the most used.
However, Right Babe has become somewhat more reclusive, and his roles have been reprised, following a failed bleach cleaning incident, which rather than making him whiter, instead turned his detailing from brown to blond.
Right Babe is known to have a voracious temper and a swear-filled vocabulary, and can snap at a moment’s notice.
Wrong Babe
Wrong Babe is the shy brother of the Baby Bears, so named as he has been used for the wrong purposes many times during his lifetime, including being used as a slipper, or as an oven mitt – an experience which has left him with lingering face burns.
Origially thought to be stupid and retarded, Wrong Babe is autistic and is rather intelligent. However, he rarely has a chance to show his intelligence, as usually his autism gets in the way causing him to mix up words, get the wrong impression, or just in general be wrong.
Wrong Babe is very shy but kind, and tends to need to think before he says anything to ensure he doesn’t get it wrong. However he is very gullible and easily manipulated to do what others want.
Clean Babe
Clean Babe is the current leader of the original bears, and the former face of the Baby Bears. He is named as he was less used during his infant years and as such was slightly more plush and whiter than the other bears of his generation.
Despite his name, Clean Babe is vastly dirtier than any of the new generation of bears. His leadership qualities aren’t as pronounced as the other leaders of the bears, however he does have the right mindset.
Clean Babe is quite level-headed, capable of seeing both sides of any argument. However, he is not as outgoing as some of the other bears, and tends to run away at the first sign of a fight.
Cream Babe
Cream Babe is the de facto leader, and current face of the Baby Bears. The first of the new generation of bears, arriving in August 2008, he is named for his creamy colour when he first arrived – a sharp contrast to the greying older bears.
Despite not actually being made the official leader of the bears, Cream Babe has taken on a leader’s role within the bears, and has a tendency to order the other bears around. He can be quite gruff and forceful when he wants something done his way, and will do whatever it takes to ensure that the other bears get it done.
Cream Babe is also a paranoid neatnik, constantly in fear of outside influences which may dirty him or squish his fluff. As such, he does not take kindly to being touched or moved at all, and prefers to sit down in the same spot for hours on end to avoid it.
Pudding Babe
Pudding Babe is the newest of the Baby Bears, having arrived in April 2010. He was named by the Internet, as commenters noted that the first thing they thought of once they saw the bear, was pudding.
Pudding Babe’s personality is as yet unknown, as he has not spoken or moved since arrival. Some claim that he may even be a mute. Further tests are ongoing.
